Anthropic introduces voice mode for Claude mobile app

Anthropic has launched a voice mode for its Claude chatbot on mobile devices. The feature allows users to have spoken conversations with Claude in English, with a rollout planned over the next few weeks.

The voice mode runs on Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 4 model and offers five voice options called “Buttery, Airy, Mellow, Glassy and Rounded.” Users can switch between text and voice interactions during conversations while maintaining context. The system displays key points on screen as Claude speaks and provides transcripts and summaries after conversations.

Google integration for paid users

For paid subscribers, the voice mode connects with Google Workspace services. Users can ask Claude to check their Google Calendar, Gmail, and Google Docs through voice commands. Claude will then summarize and read back the information audibly. This integration is limited to Claude Pro subscribers at $204 yearly ($17 monthly paid one year in advance) and Claude Max users starting at $100 monthly.

Free users can access basic voice conversations, with Anthropic estimating 20-30 conversations for most free accounts. Voice conversations count toward regular usage limits.

Alongside the voice feature, Anthropic has expanded web search access to all free users. This allows Claude to provide information based on real-time internet data.

The voice mode joins similar offerings from competitors like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini Live. According to reports, Anthropic previously held discussions with Amazon and ElevenLabs about voice technology partnerships, though the company has not confirmed which partnerships materialized.
