Alexa+ now runs its own AI podcast shows on demand

Amazon has added an AI-generated podcast feature to its Alexa+ voice assistant, allowing users to create audio content on any topic using two synthetic co-hosts. Todd Spangler reports for Variety that the feature, called Alexa Podcasts, produces episodes through artificial intelligence without any human editorial involvement.

Users request a topic by voice. Alexa+ then outlines the planned content, lets users adjust the length and focus, and generates the episode within minutes. A notification arrives on Echo Show devices and the Alexa app when the episode is ready.

To address concerns about factual accuracy, Amazon has secured licensing deals with several major news organizations. Partners include the Associated Press, Reuters, the Washington Post, Time, Forbes, Business Insider, Politico, USA Today, Condé Nast, Hearst, Vox Media, and more than 200 local U.S. newspapers.

In a sample clip, two AI voices discuss recent music releases in a conversational tone. One states that over 50% of music listening now involves unsigned artists, calling the current ecosystem “the healthiest” it has ever been.

The feature is available to Alexa+ subscribers in the United States. Alexa+ is included with Amazon Prime at no extra cost and costs $19.99 per month for non-Prime members.

Amazon says it plans to expand the format to include personalized news briefings and document-based audio content.
