Employees who already use artificial intelligence at work are using it more frequently, though the total number of users has stopped growing. Andy Kemp reports for Gallup.
Daily AI use among U.S. workers increased from 10% to 12% in the fourth quarter of 2025. Frequent use, defined as using AI at least a few times weekly, rose three percentage points to 26%. However, the overall proportion of employees using AI at all remained flat at 51%, with nearly half of workers reporting they never use AI in their roles.
Workplace AI adoption varies sharply by industry and job type. Technology, finance and higher education sectors show the highest usage rates, while retail, manufacturing and healthcare lag behind. Employees in remote-capable roles, typically desk-based positions, use AI far more than those in roles requiring physical presence. Among remote-capable workers, 66% now use AI compared to just 32% in non-remote-capable positions.
Leadership positions show dramatically higher adoption rates. In the fourth quarter, 69% of leaders used AI at least occasionally, compared to 55% of managers and 40% of individual contributors. The gap in frequent use has widened over time, with 44% of leaders now using AI regularly compared to 30% of managers and 23% of individual contributors.
Just 38% of employees report their organizations have integrated AI technology to improve productivity, unchanged from the previous quarter.
