Alibaba’s Qwen AI now creates webpages and podcasts from research reports

The Chinese technology company Alibaba has significantly upgraded its AI research tool, Qwen Deep Research. The tool can now automatically generate interactive webpages and multi-speaker podcasts from a single research report, in addition to its existing report-writing capabilities. Carl Franzen reports for VentureBeat that these new features are available within the Qwen Chat web application.

The process begins when a user submits a research request. The AI gathers information from the web, analyzes the data, and presents its findings in a comprehensive report with citations. From this report, users can then create additional content with just a few clicks. One option generates a live webpage, complete with AI-generated images, which is automatically hosted by Qwen. Another option produces a podcast featuring a discussion between two AI-generated speakers who use the research report as a basis for their conversation.

This end-to-end service is managed by Alibaba, making it accessible for users without technical expertise. The underlying technology relies on several of Qwen’s open-source models for coding, image generation, and text-to-speech conversion. The podcast feature offers a choice of different AI voices, though Carl Franzen notes the voices sound slightly robotic. While the webpages are publicly accessible via a link, the podcast files must be downloaded.

The new functionality has drawn comparisons to Google’s NotebookLM. However, the two tools serve different purposes. Qwen Deep Research focuses on generating new content from scratch by pulling information from the internet. In contrast, Google’s NotebookLM is designed to help users organize, summarize, and ask questions about their own existing documents and notes.

The updated Qwen Deep Research is now available to users of the Qwen Chat app. The company has not yet announced pricing for the service.
