OpenAI expands its affordable ChatGPT Go plan in Asia

OpenAI is rolling out its affordable ChatGPT Go subscription plan to 16 new countries in Asia. TechCrunch reports that the tier costs under $5 and provides users with higher daily limits for messages and file uploads, as well as twice the memory of the free plan. According to OpenAI, the expansion follows a fourfold increase in weekly active users in Southeast Asia. This move intensifies competition with Google, which has launched its similarly priced AI Plus plan in over 40 countries. Google’s plan includes access to its advanced model, Gemini 2.5 Pro. For both companies, these affordable subscriptions are a key strategy to expand their global user base and achieve profitability in high-growth markets.
