Google expands Nano Banana image generation to multiple products

Google has integrated its Nano Banana image generation model into several products, including AI Mode search, Google Lens, and NotebookLM. The model, officially called Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, allows users to create and edit images through text prompts.

In Google’s AI Mode search interface, users can now access image generation through a new plus icon in the prompt box. The feature lets users either generate new images from text descriptions or edit existing photos. All generated images include a Gemini watermark in the bottom-right corner.

Google Lens has received a dedicated “Create” tab for the image generation feature. The tab defaults to the front-facing camera for selfies, though users can switch to the rear camera. After capturing a photo, users can add text prompts to modify or enhance the image through AI Mode.

The feature is initially available in English to users in the United States and India on both Android and iOS devices. Google stated that additional countries and languages will follow, though no specific timeline was provided.

Video Overviews get visual upgrade

NotebookLM, Google’s note-taking and research tool, has also integrated Nano Banana to enhance its Video Overview feature. Video Overviews automatically convert uploaded documents and notes into narrated videos with visual elements.

Users can now choose from six visual styles for their videos: Whiteboard, Watercolor, Retro Print, Heritage, Paper-craft, and Anime. The original Classic style remains available, along with an auto-select option. According to Google, the AI-generated illustrations are designed to help users understand and retain information from their source materials.

NotebookLM now offers two video formats. The Explainer format provides structured, comprehensive videos for detailed understanding. The new Brief format creates shorter videos that highlight core concepts for quick reference.

Eugene Lo, a software engineer at NotebookLM, explained that the update aims to make dense documents more accessible by transforming written information into multimedia content.

The enhanced Video Overviews are rolling out first to NotebookLM Pro subscribers. Google plans to make the features available to all free users in the coming weeks. The videos will be generated in all languages currently supported by NotebookLM.

Google also announced that Nano Banana will arrive in Google Photos in the coming weeks, though details about that integration were not provided.
