OpenAI brings GPT-4.1 models to ChatGPT

OpenAI has released its GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 mini AI models in ChatGPT, according to an announcement posted on X. As Maxwell Zeff reports for TechCrunch, the GPT-4.1 models are particularly beneficial for software engineers using ChatGPT for coding or debugging. OpenAI spokesperson Shaokyi Amdo told TechCrunch that GPT-4.1 outperforms GPT-4o in coding and instruction following while offering greater speed. The company is rolling out GPT-4.1 to subscribers of ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team, while GPT-4.1 mini is available to both free and paying users. This update will replace GPT-4.0 mini in ChatGPT. The release coincides with OpenAI’s launch of a Safety Evaluations Hub to increase transparency about its AI models, addressing criticism from researchers about the initial release of GPT-4.1 through its API in April without a safety report.
