OpenAI releases Sora in Europe

OpenAI has launched its video generation tool Sora in the UK and mainland Europe, expanding availability beyond the US market. The tool, which allows users to create videos by typing simple prompts, is available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers. Dan Milmo of The Guardian reports that OpenAI showcased examples from artists across the region, including British digital artist Josephine Miller, who created a two-minute video of models wearing bioluminescent fauna. The release comes amid a growing copyright dispute between tech companies and creative industries. Film director Beeban Kidron stated that Sora “would not exist without its training data,” suggesting it may be “built on stolen goods.” OpenAI maintains that its use of copyrighted material to build Sora complies with copyright law.
