Anthropic has introduced Citations, a new API feature that enables its AI models to reference specific passages from source documents. As reported by Kyle Wiggers, the feature helps developers verify AI-generated responses by linking them to original documents like emails. Citations is available through Anthropic’s API and Google’s Vertex AI platform, supporting applications in document summarization, Q&A, and customer support. The feature currently works with Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Claude 3.5 Haiku models. Pricing depends on document length, with a 100-page document costing approximately $0.30 with Sonnet and $0.08 with Haiku. The feature aims to reduce AI hallucinations and improve response accuracy by grounding answers in source materials.
