AI startup SSI in talks for $20 billion valuation

Safe Superintelligence (SSI), an AI startup focused on developing safe artificial general intelligence, is reportedly in discussions to raise funding at a $20 billion valuation. According to Reuters reporters Kenrick Cai, Krystal Hu, and Anna Tong, this would represent a fourfold increase from the company’s $5 billion valuation last September. SSI was founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever along with Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy. The company, which has offices in Palo Alto and Tel Aviv, aims to develop AI systems that surpass human intelligence while remaining aligned with human interests. Despite having no revenue, SSI has attracted significant investor interest due to Sutskever’s reputation in AI research and the company’s unique approach to AI safety. The funding talks are still in early stages, with terms subject to change.
