TCL, the world’s largest TV manufacturer, has premiered its first AI-generated movies at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood. According to Jason Koebler’s report for 404 Media, the company is now streaming five short films on its TCL+ platform. The films represent TCL’s initial venture into AI-generated content, produced through its newly created TCL Film Machine studio.
The movies combine human-written scripts and voice acting with AI-generated visuals and animations. While technically innovative, the films show common AI artifacts like inconsistent character appearances and imperfect lip synchronization.
TCL’s Chief Content Officer Chris Regina explained that this initiative aims to create cost-effective original content for the company’s ad-supported streaming service. The films were produced over 12 weeks using various AI tools including Runway and ComfyUI, with human teams working across multiple countries.
TCL executives revealed that this content strategy is specifically designed for their streaming platform, which their data suggests attracts viewers who prefer passive viewing experiences. The company views AI-generated content as a way to differentiate itself from major streaming services without requiring Hollywood-scale budgets.
