OpenAI has enhanced its ChatGPT desktop applications with significant new features, including third-party app integration for Mac users. According to product lead Alexander Embiricos, as reported by Emilia David for VentureBeat, Plus and Teams subscribers can now directly access VS Code, Xcode, Terminal, and iTerm2 from within ChatGPT. The update responds to observed user behavior of frequent copy-pasting between applications. While Mac users currently enjoy these integrations, Windows PC users received expanded access to the desktop app along with new capabilities like Advanced Voice Mode and improved screenshot functionality. The company plans to extend third-party app integration to Windows users in the future, positioning itself to compete with similar offerings from GitHub Copilot and AWS Q Developer.
