DeepL, a German AI translation company, has introduced DeepL Voice, a new service that provides real-time text translations of spoken conversations and video content. As reported by Ingrid Lunden, the service currently supports voice input in 13 languages and can output translations in all 33 languages supported by DeepL’s text translator. The system displays translations either as side-by-side text on smartphones or as subtitles in video conferences, with Microsoft Teams being the first supported platform. According to CEO Jarek Kutylowski, while the service currently only outputs text rather than audio, it processes translations instantly without delays. The company emphasizes data privacy, stating that while voice data must be processed on their servers, nothing is retained or used for training their language models.
