AI agents are rapidly moving from concept to reality, with the potential to automate and supplement human talent in the enterprise, according to Gartner analyst Arun Chandrasekaran as reported by VentureBeat. Despite being in the early stages, autonomous agents are a hot topic in generative AI, requiring advancements in reasoning, memory, and multimodality to flourish.
However, some enterprise leaders feel AI has not met expectations, with generative AI beginning to slide into the “trough of disillusionment.” Gartner cites reasons such as underestimated startup funding needs, lack of differentiation, talent acquisition challenges, and concerns about hallucination and explainability. Nevertheless, enterprises recognize AI’s importance, with 75% of CEOs surveyed by Gartner saying it will be the most impactful technology for their industry.
