OpenAI launches $500 ChatGPT Pro plan with Ultrafast access

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Pro 500, a $500 monthly subscription that offers the company’s highest usage allowance and exclusive access to its new Ultrafast speed tier. The launch also changes the value proposition for the existing $200 Pro plan, whose included usage allowance is being reduced for new subscribers.

Pro 500 is the only personal Pro plan that includes Ultrafast. OpenAI describes the option as a premium speed setting for work where response time matters. Users can select it in the model picker, and it is designed for tasks in Codex and ChatGPT Work, including programming and other complex work.

According to OpenAI and reporting by Engadget, Ultrafast can generate up to 300 tokens per second in Codex and Work. Tokens are small pieces of text processed by an AI system. Faster token generation can make long responses, code generation, and multi-step tasks feel more immediate, though the benefit will depend on the model and the task.

Three Pro plans, with different limits

OpenAI now offers three monthly Pro subscriptions:

• Pro 100: $100 per month, without Ultrafast.
• Pro 200: $200 per month, without Ultrafast and with more included usage than Pro 100.
• Pro 500: $500 per month, with Ultrafast and the highest included usage allowance.

The company says Pro plans include access to its Pro models, Codex, deep research, image creation, memory, and file uploads. The exact allowances vary by plan and by model. When a user reaches a model’s limit, that model may become unavailable until the allowance resets. OpenAI says support staff cannot manually reset those limits.

Subscribers on Pro 500 can use their included allowance before any paid credits are applied. Once that allowance is exhausted, Ultrafast usage can draw from a credit balance. At launch, buying credits does not unlock Ultrafast for Pro 100 or Pro 200 subscribers.

Pro 200 gets a lower allowance for new subscribers

OpenAI has reopened Pro 200 to new subscriptions, but the plan no longer carries its former usage allowance for everyone. Engadget reports that Pro 200 usage in Codex and Work falls from 20 times the Plus allowance to 10 times that allowance. The weekly cap for GPT 6 Pro messages in ChatGPT is also reported to fall from 200 to 100.

Existing Pro 200 customers may be able to keep their previous allowance temporarily. OpenAI says users with an active subscription at its eligibility cutoff, or during the preceding seven days, can retain the earlier allowance through October 29, 2026, as long as their subscription remains active.

OpenAI also says a scheduled cancellation does not immediately end a subscription. Customers keep access until the current billing period ends and can reverse the cancellation before then. Those who believe their subscription ended by mistake can ask support to review the case.

Using a ChatGPT plan in other tools

The Pro 500 announcement arrives alongside a broader expansion of Sign in with ChatGPT. Plus and Pro subscribers can use eligible parts of their existing ChatGPT allowance in 16 partner services, including Devin, Notion, Vercel, Warp, OpenCode, OpenClaw, and Amp.

Paul Sawers reports for The New Stack that this system lets participating tools draw from included ChatGPT Work and Codex usage rather than requiring users to set up an API key. Users can set weekly limits for individual partner apps. When a limit is reached, OpenAI says included usage stops instead of automatically shifting charges to the partner’s billing system.
