Kimi has introduced Kimi Work, a desktop application for macOS and Windows that combines AI chat with direct access to local files, browser automation and scheduled tasks. Kimi announces the product in an official blog post, positioning it as a tool for longer workflows that end in completed files, reports or code rather than a single chat response.
The company says Kimi Work can coordinate up to 300 AI agents in parallel. The software can split larger assignments into smaller tasks, check results and combine them into outputs such as presentations, spreadsheets, PDFs and websites. Kimi says users can follow the process and intervene while work is underway.
The launch puts Kimi in direct competition with the already established Claude Cowork and the newly introduced ChatGPT Work. Like those products, Kimi Work aims to move AI from answering questions toward carrying out practical desktop work. Its focus is on tasks involving documents, web research, data analysis and recurring reporting.
From local folders to recurring reports
Users can connect a project to a local folder, allowing the app to read files and write results back to the same location. According to Kimi, the app can also run Python and shell commands locally. Browser automation is handled through the Kimi WebBridge extension, which can use an existing signed in browser session to navigate pages, fill forms and download files.
A feature called Goal Mode is designed for jobs that require repeated research, testing or revision. Users define an objective, limits and acceptance criteria. The system then works in rounds until it marks the task as complete, blocked or ready for another round. Users can also set scheduled tasks for regular jobs such as morning briefings or weekly performance reports.
Kimi also highlights plugins, which connect external services through MCP, OAuth or other platform interfaces. The company says access is limited to accounts and permissions that users explicitly authorize. Kimi Work is free to download, though initial usage credits are limited and paid plans are available for more extensive use.
