Generative AI will fundamentally change businesses in 2025, according to DataStax CEO Chet Kapoor. In an interview with VentureBeat, Kapoor explains that the current challenges in implementing AI are a normal part of technology revolutions. He compares the situation to previous disruptions such as the web, mobile, and cloud. Kapoor sees 2024 as the year of “production AI,” while the real transformation will begin in 2025.
Kapoor outlines three phases of AI adoption in the enterprise: In the “delegate” phase, companies first look for 30% efficiency gains, often through tools like GitHub Copilot. The “accelerate” phase is about becoming 30% more effective by building applications to increase productivity. Finally, in the “invent” phase, companies begin to reinvent themselves using AI technology and fundamentally redesign their business processes.
According to Kapoor, companies need to address three areas for successful implementation: The technology stack should be based on open source solutions to promote transparency and innovation. In terms of people, the focus is on empowering developers to build AI applications. In terms of processes, Kapoor emphasizes the importance of governance and recommends getting regulators involved early without stifling innovation.
