Black Forest Labs, a German startup for generative AI image models, is close to a new funding round of 100 million US dollars at a valuation of 1 billion dollars, according to sources. This is reported by Ingrid Lunden for TechCrunch. The company was founded by the engineers who developed the technology behind Stability AI. The founders are Andreas Blattmann, Patrick Esser, Dominik Lorenz and CEO Robin Rombach. Just two months ago, the Freiburg-based company emerged from stealth with $31 million in funding. Their freely available image generator “Flux” was praised in initial tests. Black Forest Labs is currently working on a state-of-the-art text-to-video tool, the release date of which has not yet been announced.
