OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is leaving the safety and security committee of the company’s board of directors. The committee will now consist entirely of independent members. Zico Kolter, head of the machine learning department at Carnegie Mellon University, will chair the committee. Other members include Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo, former NSA chief Paul Nakasone, and former Sony general counsel Nicole Seligman. The committee has the power to delay the release of new AI models. Critics had previously complained that Altman’s membership could compromise the committee’s oversight function. Source: Axios
