A bug in Google Gemini is causing chat histories to disappear from the sidebar for a large number of users. Entire conversation lists are going blank, with some users losing up to a year of stored chats. Reports have surfaced on Reddit, Google’s own support forums, and other platforms, affecting both free and paid subscribers including Gemini Pro and Business users.
According to user reports, the data has not actually been deleted. Past prompts remain accessible through Google’s My Activity page at myactivity.google.com/product/gemini. However, the interface is not loading conversation history correctly, meaning users can see individual queries but not full conversation threads.
Google One support has told at least one user that the issue is a known bug and is being actively fixed. A number of users report that their chat history returned on its own after a few hours.
This is not the first time Gemini has experienced this problem. Similar reports appeared in August, September, and November of the previous year, suggesting a recurring issue on Google’s servers rather than an isolated incident.
For now, users experiencing missing chats are advised to check their My Activity page and, where possible, save important conversations by exporting content to an external document.
