Can AI search engines beat Google?

This article from The Verge examines whether AI-based search engines can already replace Google. The author analyzes the three most common types of search queries – navigation, information, and exploration – and concludes that AI tools are significantly slower than Google for navigation queries. They perform better for information queries and can be especially helpful for hidden information. Exploratory queries are the strength of AI search engines, but again, Google is ahead with specific page designs for search results. Ultimately, the author believes it will take more than a chatbot to beat Google – namely a rethink of the results pages, the business model, and the way information is presented and summarized.
