Deutsche Telekom has announced plans to release an “AI Phone” developed in collaboration with Perplexity, the AI search company. According to Ingrid Lunden at TechCrunch, the device will launch in 2026 at under $1,000, initially targeting European markets. The phone will feature AI capabilities integrated into the lock screen, with Perplexity’s technology enabling proactive assistance beyond just answering questions. Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas explained that the system will help users with tasks like booking flights, making reservations, and sending emails. Deutsche Telekom board member Claudia Nemat emphasized the company’s AI transformation, noting that a complementary app called “Magenta AI” will be available to the carrier’s existing customers on iOS and Android.
