Google integrates Gemini AI into Workspace and adjusts subscription pricing

Google has announced the integration of its AI capabilities into Google Workspace business subscriptions, eliminating the previous requirement for separate AI add-ons. According to a statement from Google Cloud Applications President Jerry Dischler, the company will include Gemini AI features in all Workspace Business and Enterprise plans, making them available to business customers without additional purchases.

The integration encompasses AI assistance in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Meet, Chat, and other Workspace applications, including features like email summarization, document drafting, and meeting note-taking. Users will also gain access to Gemini Advanced, Google’s next-generation AI assistant, and NotebookLM Plus, a research tool. Google emphasizes that the AI features maintain enterprise-grade security controls and comply with standards including SOC 1/2/3, ISO certifications, and HIPAA requirements.

While making AI features standard across subscriptions, Google is implementing price adjustments for its Workspace plans. The company cites an example where Business Standard subscribers who previously paid $32 per user monthly (including the Gemini add-on) will now pay $14 per user monthly – representing a $2 increase from the basic Workspace subscription without AI features. The new pricing structure takes effect immediately for new customers, while existing customers will see changes starting March 17, 2025, or at their next renewal date for annual plans.
